Commission Member – Elected a commissioner of AFL Europe by the general assembly at it’s first meeting in 2010 in Frankfurt, Ciaran O’ Hara has been involved in Australian Football in Europe for more than twelve years. A founding member of both the Dublin Demons and the Australian Rules Football League of Ireland, he served as President of the Demons for two years before assuming the league Presidency in 2007, a role he has held until the end of 2011. Ciaran has for many years been passionate about the establishment of a united European body and was part of an earlier attempt at a European Council at the turn of the millennium. That attempt resulted in him being elected as the European Representative on the AFL’s first International Development Committee, a group which oversaw the staging of the very first International Cup.

Aside from his roles within AFL Europe and ARFLI, Ciaran also has a keen interest in Coaching and Team Management. He was the first Irishman to complete AFL level one coaching accreditation in 2002 and he has subsequently carried out quite an amount of Junior coaching as well as some senior club coaching with the Midland Tigers and Midwest Magpies. He is currently in his second stint as Manager of the Irish Men’s National Team and this year’s International Cup will be his Second in succession in that role.

By profession Ciaran is a Television Producer/Director and Journalist who now runs his own production company, specialising in the production of live sport. Ciaran has worked on some of the biggest televised sports events in the world including Champions League, Europa League, World Cup Rugby, Formula 1 and of course Gaelic Games. In a 20 year career in broadcasting which began as a runner Ciaran has worked in Production, Rights acquisition, Commissioning, business development and technical development. Projects he has been involved in have been nominated for three Irish Film and Television Awards, winning one, and one Celtic Media Award. Although elected to his role on the commission, Ciaran brings a great deal of professional experience to the position too.
