Shane Hill

Originally from Australia, Shane now coordinates the delivery of tailored development programmes appropriate the needs of our umpiring groups across the diverse European region, having umpired in Europe since 2007 and at the European level since 2009. He focuses on helping member nations become self-sufficient for umpires in the medium term.

Having run 10 workshops since 2010 and in continuing, regular contact with Regional Umpiring Coordinators, Shane has an intimate understanding of the challenges facing local leagues in successfully recruiting, retaining and developing local umpiring talent, to keep pace with player skills across the region. Playing standards have seen a marked improvement since 2010, requiring our umpires to develop at a commensurate rate.

Prior to arriving in Europe and having commenced umpiring in 1996, Shane progressed from local level through the VFL Academy and on to State Level with the ACTAFL competition between 2005 and 2007. He counts equally amongst his highlights in Australian Football umpiring the 2010 and 2011 Grand Finals of the AFL Europe Euro Cup alongside the AIS v Europe matches in 2011 and 2012.
